Job Details

Job summary

You will be expected to provide high-quality nursing care to patients within a GP surgery setting, supporting health promotion, chronic disease management, and treatment of minor illnesses.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Duties

  • Deliver routine nursing care
  • Perform cervical screening (smears)
  • Carry out immunisations and vaccinations (adult and childhood)
  • Undertake health checks
  • Monitor and manage long-term conditions (e.g. asthma, diabetes, hypertension)
  • Conduct ECGs and other basic diagnostic tests

Patient Care

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care
  • Provide advice on general health, wellbeing, and disease prevention
  • Support patients in managing chronic conditions
  • Promote healthy lifestyle choices (e.g. smoking cessation, weight management)

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records
  • Use clinical systems to document consultations and care plans
  • Ensure compliance with practice protocols and guidelines
  • Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives

Infection Control & Safety

  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures
  • Ensure safe storage and handling of vaccines and medications
  • Maintain a clean, safe clinical environment

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain NMC registration and adhere to the Code of Conduct
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development
  • Work collaboratively with GPs, healthcare assistants, and other staff
  • Stay up to date with clinical guidelines and best practice
